Saturday April 19, 2008 will mark the anniversary of the start of the American Revolution. This monumental date will also set the tempo for change in the greater Boston area. The What Is Change? Voter Registration and Mobilization Event will be an afternoon long engagement focused on providing thousands of Boston citizens the necessary tools for instituting change in the local and national levels. In addition to a voter registration drive, dozens of musicians and key local figures are slated to storm the stage with socially-conscious, solution-oriented music and messages. The event will be a fierce and active one aimed at cementing Boston as a national leader in civic engagement.

This innovative event will be hosted by Akrobatik and DJ-ed by DJ Nomadik. It includes performances by Invisible Inc., Soul Movement, One Signata Nach, Reality Click, and Joy Daniels. It will also include breakdancing by Floorlords, street theatre by Reflect and Strengthen, spoken word by Cara Lisa Powers, and talks from local leaders such as Grace Ross, Ron Bell, and Ali Nookani.

The What Is Change? event is hosted by Project: Think Different (PTD), MassVOTE, the National Voting Rights Institute, and Teen Empowerment in conjunction with over 40 organizations from throughout Boston’s Third Sector. It plans to accommodate thousands of individuals, 5 schools, and media such as the Boston Globe.

In this modern age when so many have become disenfranchised and maligned by institutions that don’t truly listen to their constituents, the What Is Change? event on Saturday April 19th will serve to do just the opposite. It will ensure that all individuals are key components to building a cohesive democracy. The Third Sector is ardently demonstrating that though integration with the government, they are ready to listen to our people, support our community, and advocate for their issues.

Now is the time to make Boston a juggernaut for the change we so desire. It is the time to revitalize an atrophied faith in the government and community. April 19, 2008’s What Is Change? Voter Registration and Mobilization Event will stand triumphantly in the annals of time as a milestone for providing unadulterated access to the people. Together we can!
